I don’t know about you, but as a parent I spend my fair share of time watching kids shows. I love it, though! There’s so many good lessons and uplifting messages for me to learn while my kids enjoy!
This week the films of choice have been “Planes,” and its sequel, “Planes: Fire and Rescue.” Dusty Crophopper was a crop duster, then a racer, then a fire fighter. He chased his dreams, then circumstances changed and so he chased new dreams. I thought about it and realized that the changes he faces are a really good depiction of how things work in real life. I love all the movies about people fulfilling their dreams, but it’s always about one particular story. And the reality of life is that, for most people, it consists of lots of different stories. Life is a journey of continuous growth and development. So, you can have more than one dream. In fact, you should. Because life happens, and sometimes circumstances change outside of your control. It’s important to adapt to life’s changes. Keeping a positive outlook will allow you to set new goals as you progress. You can always do something great, you just have to find the way that works for you.
It is healthy to look back and reminisce about your past accomplishments; let them give you confidence and make you feel good. But when some of the dreams you had in life are past their season, remember that you still have so much life to live! Look forward at all the infinite opportunities you have ahead of you! You raced around the world, you conquered, and you loved it. Way to go!! Life threw you a curve ball. So now go use your talents in a new way. Fight fires and save lives? Bring it on!
I love that Dusty’s new adventure was devoted to someone else’s needs. As you chase your dreams, don’t underestimate the value of setting goals to help others. That is where true greatness and self fulfillment lie. I’ve found that I’m never happier than when I’m making someone else happy. So I’m using that as my guide now.
“When you are just existing, life happens to you… and you manage; when you are truly living, you happen to life… and you lead.”
-Steve Maraboli
Enjoy what life brings you. Do what you love, love what you do. And when life changes, step up to the challenge and do something else you love. Take another step. It’s okay if your dreams change… Just don’t let change stop you from dreaming.
“Still I Fly” is a song that plays during Dusty Crophopper’s journey to Piston Peak National Park.
Lyrics
There’s a time in your life
When the world is on your side
You might not feel it
You might not see it
But it surrounds you like a light
Makes you stronger for the fight
Never letting go, gotta learn to grow
Watch me as I touch the sky
Still I fly
Now I know it’s what I gotta do
Find a dream that’s new
Give it all I got this time
Still I fly
Still I fly
Feel the wind all around
All the courage to be found
Who knows what’s out there
I know I’ll get there
All off into the sun
I’m not the only one that’s
Never letting go, gotta learn to grow
Watch me as I touch the sky
Still I fly
Now I know it’s what I got to do
Find a dream is new
Give it all I got this time
Still I fly
Still I fly
Still I fly
Breathe it in, I’m gonna shine
It’s my moment, gotta live it, live it right
I’m flying, flying so strong
I’m moving
I’m moving
I’m moving on!
Never letting go, gotta learn to grow
Watch me as I touch the sky
Still I fly
Now I know it’s what I got to do
Find the dream that’s new
Give it all I got this time
Oh, still I fly
Still I fly
